Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you have two different services?

We have two services for two reasons.

#1 We have more people attending than our worship center can seat at one time.

#2 This allows us to offer different music and worship elements to help people better connect with God.

What is the difference between the two services?

The traditional service starts at 8:30 am and is designed for those who connect with God by singing of hymns and worship with the choir and orchestra. The people who attend this service usually “dress for church” and there is a more formal atmosphere.

The contemporary service starts at 11:00 am and is geared for connecting to God in a less formal way. The songs may include some hymns but will definitely be some that have been written in the last few years. Most people dress comfortably and come with an expectation to meet with God.

Both services are centered on the preaching of God’s word.

What do I wear?

Dress as you feel appropriate. In our early service you will see more suits and ties but also some jeans and t-shirts. Our second service is less formal with less suits and more denim.

Our attitude is: Come as you are. We care about you -- not what you wear.

Is there childcare during the service?

Our nursery is available for all children birth-four years old during both services. Your child’s comfort and safety are our top concerns. All our nursery volunteers have undergone background checks and our workers have had CPR training.

Children kindergarten and older are expected to attend worship with their parents. Outside the children’s wing are colored bags that include a clipboard, crayons, and some coloring sheets and children’s activities. Grab one of these per child on the way in!

Why not children’s church?

Deuteronomy 6 makes it clear that God’s plan is for the parents to be the spiritual teachers and role models. No pastor, children’s church or program can come close to having the influence and authority that God has bestowed upon parents.

We see the church as a place to equip parents not to replace them as the primary spiritual influence in the lives of their kids. We don’t have children’s church because we believe the best way for a child to learn how to follow Jesus is to watch their parents do it.

On Sunday morning kid’s go to church with their parents but Wednesday night we have developed Kid’s on the Rock, for parents to go to church with their kids. This is a family worship service aimed at equipping the family to share spiritual experiences not just at church but also through their lives.

It’s my first time -- where do I go?

Please look for our greeters in the parking lot or stationed at each door. These folks are here to answer questions and make you feel at home. Of course we are a family church so if you just look confused there is a good chance someone will ask if they can help you.

Why Bible Study for all ages?

A lot of people think “Sunday School” is just for children. Sunday School provides a great foundation for children to learn that God’s word is truth and applicable in all avenues of life.

As adults we are to build upon that foundation. We believe that God has designed us to be life long learners. Our bible study groups allow us to learn not only from the Bible but also from the life experiences of those around us.

At First Baptist we recognize that we are better together. Studying the Bible with others gives us the opportunity to apply what we learn, to be there for one another and to see God work in the lives of those around us.
